Step up 2 the streets...

How I love the diversity of cities. Not many corners look the same. You see different styles and architectural areas wherever you go. And well, this area here reminded me of all the street dance movies somehow. Starting with the rather classic ‘Flashdance’ to ‘Save the Last Dance’, ‘Honey’ and all the ‘Step up’ parts. I don’t even mention the other kinds of music styles, which cover numerous films and musicals as well, e.g. ‘Grease’, ‘Hair’, ‘Dirty Dancing’…

Although these films are more targeted to women or male dancers and the storyline is always quite the same (only changing of actors, their destiny, the social problems, the dance style and the combos) you still get a lot of insights how the whole dance industry is transforming itself in the film industry. And I guess that’s the only exciting part of it.

The producers and choreographers bring it to a new level each time when it comes to the dance part. The choreography is getting more impressive, the dancing skills need to be better with each film and the locations and after effects are more astonishing every time. The competition for the dancers is really hard obviously and I guess they reached quite the top of this type of films. All the different styles have been combined – ballet and hip hop, street dance and tap dance and now with ‘Magic Mike’ they are covering even another category. This should be it now, no? Or do they want to dance in the Marvel World or with the Astronauts?

Take care & write you soon…
